Exclusive excerpt from Jacques Attali’s book

Jacques Attali is a rare voice on the global stage: special Adviser to French President Mitterrand for 10 years; founder of 4 international institutions: Action contre la faim, EUREKA, BERD and Positive Planet; his more than 80 books are available in 22 languages and have sold 9 million copies worldwide.

His 1990 book Lignes d’Horizon (Millennium in the English version) famously served as an inspiration for Sun Microsystem’s Java programming language. On a more personal note, I read Lignes d’Horizon as a 16 year old and Attali’s vision of “nomad devices” inspired part of my career path in mobile telecoms.

2 questions and a prediction with a disinformation specialist

Thomas Huchon is one of the foremost specialists of disinformation. Thomas is a Paris-based journalist and director of noted documentaries Conspi hunter (2015) and Trumping Democracy (2017). He is also a lecturer at the Sciences Po Journalism School and a host of the “Anti Complot” weekly show on LCI news channel.

I reached out to Thomas to discuss Q Anon and its globalized rollout.

1- Q Anon has gone global and is weaponizing its disinfo to destabilize democracies in Europe and Asia after America. You’ve been studying disinfo, what’s an immediate method of slowing it down ?

If Q Anon…

It’s the sum of collective greed and evil

American media, particularly its DC/NY political media, has many virtues: doggedness like David Fahrentold who uncovered Trump’s grifting, righteousness like Eugene Robinson and Mike Barnicle whose opeds are useful chronicles of our “interesting times”. What it fundamentally lacks is the ability to think outside itself and to call out, forcefully, how we got here, with a Trumpified GOP and Roger Stone calling for Trump to imprison the Clintons, Mark Zuckerberg and even Gen. Mattis.

Murdoch destabilized democracy on 3 continents

Rupert Murdoch will be remembered as the man whose greed and cunning destabilized and upended democracy…

China, Russia and their client states are in a long-haul battle against liberal democracy.

President Biden’s European tour is organized as a crescendo of events to showcase the strength of the transatlantic alliance, the most powerful in the world, uniting 400M Europeans and 330M Americans and representing the majority of the G7, NATO and the UN Security Council. Liberal democracies’ economic might is formidable: the EU GDP is 15 Trillion USD, America and Canada combined is 23 Trillion USD. If you add Japan (5T), Australia (1.4T) and India (2.8T), the major democracies’ weight totals 47.2T.

China, Russia and Iran are our foes, let’s stop being coy

Nations rise and fall but their origin story is always key to understanding them in our present topsy turvy times. My native France was formed as a sovereign state before it became a nation, this explains in part its adherence to dirigiste policies.

The America where I grew up was founded by strivers looking for adventure and riches, and business…
